First steps

This page takes a freshly installed router to its first working subscriber. It assumes you finished Install and can run dtvsol as a user with sudo.

Terminal window
dtvsol iface # every interface, grouped, with its addresses
dtvsol netcfg show # the stored network: ports, bonds, addresses, default route, DNS

There are two ways to serve subscribers. Pick the one that matches your network.

Subscribers are services: one ONT, one fixed address, one VLAN per PON port. The router creates the VLANs by itself when you register the OLT and add services. Go to step 3.

Create a VLAN. dtvsol vlan add asks for the parent interface, the VLAN id, the type (802.1Q or 802.1ad), the router’s address on it, an optional IPv6 prefix and a label. It then offers to serve the VLAN with DHCP right away:

Terminal window
dtvsol vlan add
Parent [#]: 2
VLAN ID (1-4094): 100
Protocol [Q=802.1Q, ad=802.1ad] (default Q): Q
IP/CIDR (empty for none; segment ok, e.g. 100.70.9.0/24 -> .1 assigned): 100.70.0.0/24
IPv6/prefix (empty for none; segment ok, e.g. XXXX:XXXX::/64 -> ::1 assigned): XXXX:XXXX:100::/64
Label (optional): access-1
Serve it with DHCP now (subnet + pool + delegation)? [Y/n]: Y

You can also add a VLAN from the monitor: Settings → VLANs. See VLANs, addresses and routes.

Speeds are in Mbit/s, download first:

Terminal window
dtvsol plans add plan_100_50 100 50 "100/50 residential"
dtvsol plans list

A service can also create its plan on the fly (--down 100 --up 50 makes plan_100_50). See Plans and shaping.

Register the OLT once. The login is tested before it is stored, and the password is kept encrypted:

Terminal window
dtvsol olt add olt-1 10.10.0.2 admin --svlan 1000
dtvsol olt sync --olt olt-1

The OLT’s S-VLAN must exist on the router as vlan1000, on the port or bond that faces the OLT. Create it with dtvsol vlan add (802.1Q, id 1000, no address, do not serve it with DHCP). The per-PON-port VLANs inside it are created by the services.

Ask the OLTs which ONTs are connected and not yet registered, then create the service:

Terminal window
dtvsol service unregistered
dtvsol service add 485754430A1B2C3D --name "Example Customer" --plan plan_100_50 \
--olt olt-1 --pon 0/1/0 --ref C-0001

The command prints the VLAN the technician sets on the ONU’s WAN (DHCP). The subscriber’s fixed address is shown by:

Terminal window
dtvsol service get C-0001

See Registering an OLT and Services.

Terminal window
dtvsol clients add AA:BB:CC:DD:EE:FF 100.70.0.10 customer-1 "Example Customer"
dtvsol clients plan AA:BB:CC:DD:EE:FF plan_100_50
dtvsol clients list

Private subscriber addresses need CGNAT (or a NAT pool) on the uplink:

Terminal window
dtvsol cgnat set enable iface bond0 pool XXX.XXX.XXX.64-XXX.XXX.XXX.79
dtvsol cgnat

See CGNAT.

Terminal window
dtvsol antispoof on
dtvsol antispoof

See Protection.

Terminal window
dtvsol doctor
dtvsol alarms

dtvsol doctor audits the configuration, what survives a reboot, and, when an OLT is registered, the OLT against the router’s records. Each finding comes with a fix. Use dtvsol doctor --no-olt for a fast run without the OLT.

Then keep a named version of this configuration:

Terminal window
dtvsol config save "first subscriber working"
